When Joey first moved to Colorado, the very first craft brewery he stepped into was WeldWerks Brewing Company in downtown Greeley. Known for its award-winning hazy IPAs, barrel-aged stouts, and creative small-batch brews, WeldWerks quickly became one of his favorite hangouts. So when it came time to plan engagement photos with Julia, returning to that same spot where his Colorado journey began was a no-brainer.
From NYC to Colorado: Julia & Joey’s Love Story
These two have one of those serendipitous meet-cute stories you just can’t script. They first crossed paths at Joe’s Pizza and Joe Coffee in New York City, where they instantly hit it off. Fast forward to a trip to Las Vegas, Joey proposed, Julia said yes (though, in her words, she “kind of had to” since she designed her own engagement ring!), and now they’re planning their Chicago wedding.
A Documentary-Style Brewery Engagement Session
From the moment we started planning, Joey and Julia told me they wanted their engagement photos to feel completely natural, unposed, and authentic, just them enjoying time together. They gave me full freedom to photograph in a documentary style, which allowed me to capture genuine laughter, glances, and those subtle in-between moments. And where better to do that than in a warm, cozy brewery with pints in hand?
Inside WeldWerks Brewing Company: Snow, Beer & Barrels
Outside, Colorado delivered a gentle winter snowfall, but inside WeldWerks Brewing Company, we were surrounded by the inviting hum of conversation, the clink of pint glasses, and the comforting scent of malted grain. Joey and Julia are regulars here, so it felt like photographing two friends in their natural habitat—they even knew many of the bartenders by name.
The team at WeldWerks gave us a behind-the-scenes tour of the brewing facilities, from the shiny stainless steel tanks to the impressive barrel-aging room, where rows of oak barrels quietly work their magic. The combination of rustic textures, warm lighting, and stainless steel made for an incredible photo backdrop that’s distinctly “Colorado brewery.”
