Fall Vasona Park Family Session | Nehrenz Family

I was so excited to see Emily and Matt again after photographing their wedding at Quail Ranch in Simi Valley, Ca several years ago. We met up at Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos, California, and were greeted by a burst of fall color. Autumn always feels like such a magical time for family photos—and this session reminded me why.

Emily asked if I often photograph past couples and their growing families. The answer is a resounding yes. While I don’t advertise family sessions, I love offering them to past clients and their referrals. Watching couples grow into parents is one of the most special parts of this job.

Vasona Lake’s Festive Backdrop

Vasona Lake County Park spans 152 acres filled with trails, water features, and seasonal community events. When we visited, the park was fully decked out in holiday lights, gearing up for its annual Christmas parade the following weekend. It added a little extra sparkle to the already vibrant fall setting.

Their daughter brought all the energy you could hope for during a family session, chasing birds, picking up branches, and proudly presenting me with leafy “gifts.” I always encourage kids to just be themselves during sessions, and she absolutely embraced that idea.

Those candid, unfiltered moments? That’s where the magic is.

Spending time with the Nehrenz family was such a joy. I can’t wait to photograph them again and see what new adventures (and treasures) their little one brings to the next session.
