YMCA of the Rockies Wedding in Estes Park, Co | Ann and Landis
With sweeping 360° views of the Rocky Mountains, the YMCA of the Rockies’ Estes Park Center was the perfect backdrop for Ann and Landis’s autumn wedding. Their celebration at Mountainside Lodge brought together 75 of their closest friends and family for a day full of heartfelt moments, mountain beauty, and plenty of personal touches!
I’ve written a full guide to choosing your Estes Park wedding venue. Pop over if you’re still in the research phase.
Getting Ready at Mountainside Lodge
One of the things I loved most about this wedding was how much of the day happened in one place.
Ann and Landis rented Mountainside Lodge for the weekend, which meant there was no rushing between locations or loading everyone into cars every few hours. The bridesmaids spent the morning downstairs in matching olive velvet dresses while the groomsmen took over the upper floor.
Before the ceremony, Ann and Landis exchanged letters. Ann later shared that she cried while reading hers, and after photographing enough weddings, I've learned that those quiet moments often stick with couples just as much as the big ones.
The detail everyone was waiting for, though, was the dress.
Ann wore her mom's wedding dress from 1984 and managed to keep it a complete secret until the ceremony. She paired it with red cowboy boots, which felt like the perfect balance between honoring family history and making the look entirely her own.
Meanwhile, Landis handed out hatchets as gifts to his groomsmen. It was one of those details that immediately made sense once you met the group and saw the mountain setting surrounding them.
An Outdoor Ceremony at John Timothy Stone Mountainside Chapel
The ceremony took place at the John Timothy Stone Mountainside Chapel at the YMCA of the Rockies, with mountain views stretching out in every direction.
Guests arrived to find blankets waiting on their seats for the cool autumn air while a flutist and guitarist played live music before the ceremony began. It felt peaceful and unhurried, the kind of setting that doesn't need much decoration because the landscape is already doing most of the work.
Ann and Landis chose not to do a first look, so the aisle became the moment they saw each other for the first time that day. What made it even more special was who was waiting at the front.
Ann's mom officiated the ceremony.
As an Episcopal priest, she led the service herself, and every member of the wedding party participated with a reading. Family was woven into nearly every part of the day, from the dress to the ceremony itself, and you could feel how much those connections mattered to them.
And then there was the recessional.
Instead of a traditional exit song, they walked back up the aisle to the YMCA theme song while guests laughed, clapped, and sang along. It was unexpected, a little ridiculous, and absolutely perfect for the atmosphere they had created all day.
After the ceremony, their dog Summit joined everyone for portraits thanks to Alisha's Pet Playcations. As someone who photographs a lot of dog-loving couples, I can confidently say that wedding days are usually better when the dog makes an appearance. I’m also a giant fan of dog-wranglers if you can’t have your dog at the venue all day long.
The florals from Idlewild Floral tied everything together beautifully, mixing dried grasses, warm autumn tones, palm fronds, and orange pincushion protea that looked right at home against the mountain backdrop.
Reception at Mountainside Lodge
Back at Mountainside Lodge, the celebration continued with dinner, toasts, dancing, and one of my favorite reception details from the day.
Photos from Ann's parents' wedding were displayed throughout the space.
Seeing those photographs alongside Ann wearing her mom's dress made the entire wedding feel connected across generations, which is a beautiful addition to any wedding.
As the evening went on, guests filled the dance floor, shared stories, and settled into the relaxed rhythm that seems to happen when everyone is staying together for the weekend.
Then, at 9 p.m., the party paused for a piñata. Sometimes the details guests remember most aren't the ones anyone expects, especially if that detail is when the bride and groom take a swing at the candy filled unicorn.
And because no wedding is without a little surprise, Colonel Teddy Roosevelt (in cardboard cutout form, wearing full military garb) made an appearance, delighting guests and sparking plenty of laughter.
A Celebration to Remember in Estes Park
From start to finish, Ann and Landis’s YMCA of the Rockies wedding at Mountainside Lodge was filled with love, laughter, and the kind of personalized details that made it uniquely theirs. The combination of the Rocky Mountain views, the sentimental touches, and the joyful celebration created a day their guests will never forget.
