Sapphire Point Overlook Archery Engagement Session in Dillon, Co | Sierra and Josh

I love when the stars align just right, and Sierra and Josh’s engagement session at Sapphire Point Overlook in Dillon, Colorado felt like one of those perfect moments. The two were visiting from California for a family wedding, and since they’re planning their own celebration at The Ridge Tahoe in Stateline, Nevada, it felt only right to squeeze in some beautiful Rocky Mountain engagement photos while they were here.

Fun fact: I’ve known Sierra since high school, so being asked to photograph this next chapter of her life is incredibly special to me. It’s always a joy to document a love story, but it’s even more meaningful when it’s someone you’ve known for years.

A Dillon, Colorado Engagement Session Full of Laughs

Sapphire Point in Dillon, Colorado is easily one of my favorite engagement session locations in the Rockies, especially with a couple as joyful and hilarious as these two. Whether Josh was whispering something ridiculous to Sierra or we were being photobombed by the local chipmunks (yes, plural), we were all laughing the entire time. The views overlooking Dillon Reservoir and the surrounding mountains definitely don’t hurt either.

Bringing Personality Into Your Engagement Photos

One of the most fun parts of this session? Sierra and Josh brought their archery bows. Josh has been practicing archery for years and recently began teaching Sierra too. Including such a unique, shared hobby in their session made the shoot even more personal and creative. I always tell my couples, if there’s a way to bring a part of your real life into your session, do it! Whether it's paddle boards, dogs, or bows and arrows, it makes the session so much more “you.”

Looking Ahead to Their Lake Tahoe Wedding

Later this year, I’ll get to meet back up with these two at The Ridge Tahoe, a breathtaking wedding venue perched above Lake Tahoe with panoramic mountain and lake views. I couldn’t imagine a better backdrop for their big day, it’s going to pair perfectly with the epic Colorado vibes we captured at Sapphire Point.
