Rocky Mountain National Park Fall Engagement Session | Kayla and Kyle
One of my favorite things about photographing in Rocky Mountain National Park is that you can stop almost anywhere (within reason, of course!) and capture something absolutely stunning. This is especially true in the fall, when Colorado’s aspen trees turn that perfect shade of golden yellow, and the whole park feels like it’s glowing.
I met up with Kayla and Kyle during peak fall color, and while they had originally hoped to be tying the knot that weekend, Covid had other plans. So instead, we packed our bags and turned the day into something just as meaningful, an adventure session to chase the very best of autumn in the Rockies.
Bear Lake to Bugling Elk in Moraine Park
We started their engagement session at Bear Lake, which was showing off with alpine views, crisp mountain air, and shimmering reflections beneath Hallett Peak. After soaking up some time there, we made our way back toward the park entrance—just in time for sunset in Moraine Park.
And wow, did nature show up for these two. During the fall season, RMNP becomes a stage for the annual elk rut, where massive bull elk descend into the lower valleys to compete for mates. As the sun dipped below the mountains, a herd of elk spread out in the meadow below us. The sound of their bugling calls echoed across the field, truly one of Colorado’s most unforgettable natural events.
Making Magic Out of the Unexpected
While this day didn’t look quite like the one Kayla and Kyle had originally imagined, it was still packed with beauty, emotion, and celebration. Sometimes life has different timing in store, but the Colorado mountains always know how to make it feel special.
I’m so glad I got to be a part of this day with these two and document their love surrounded by fall colors, wildlife, and the epic landscapes of Rocky Mountain National Park.
Thinking about your own Colorado fall engagement session? RMNP offers unbeatable scenery and a front-row seat to the wild magic of the Rockies, let’s make something beautiful together.
