Rebecca and Erik’s wedding at The Gatehouse at Lionsgate Event Center in Lafayette, Colorado was the perfect balance of history, elegance, and personality. Once a dairy farm, Lionsgate has been transformed into a fairy-tale setting, and The Gatehouse itself is full of character with antique French stained glass, Argentine ironwork, and a grand Victorian staircase.

For couples searching for a Colorado wedding venue with both indoor and outdoor options, Lionsgate offers multiple ceremony and portrait locations all within one property, which makes the flow of the day feel seamless. It’s a venue that offers both historic charm and modern sophistication, which made it the perfect backdrop for a wedding day full of deeply personal touches.

From custom-designed rings sculpted by Erik himself, to a Norwegian-inspired processional where the two walked down the aisle together, their celebration at Lionsgate was every bit as meaningful as it was beautiful.

What Makes Lionsgate Event Center Unique for Weddings

A lot of wedding venues feel like separate locations stitched together, but Lionsgate doesn't really work that way.

The Gatehouse, the gardens, and the reception spaces all sit close enough together that the day feels connected. Guests aren't wondering where they're supposed to go next, and couples aren't spending the entire afternoon watching the clock.

For Rebecca and Erik, that meant we could move between portraits, family photos, and the ceremony without ever feeling rushed. As a photographer, it's one of the things I appreciate most about the property. The logistics stay simple, which leaves more space for people to actually experience their wedding day instead of managing it, which really helps to create buffer room in the timeline for more moments.

Getting Ready at the Gatehouse

The day began inside the Gatehouse bridal suite, adorned with chandeliers and floral wallpaper. Rebecca’s mixed-gender wedding party, wearing deep purple dresses or purple shirts, helped her get ready in the charming space. The Gatehouse suite has large windows that bring in soft, natural light, which makes it especially ideal for getting-ready photos without needing harsh artificial lighting. As a thank-you, Rebecca gifted each of them customized white and purple bags along with jewelry she had picked especially for them.

Meanwhile, Erik reflected on the details he had poured into the day, including the couple’s rings. “My ring features incomplete hearts that flow into complete ones,” Rebecca explained, “and both incorporate subtle versions of our initials.” Erik had sculpted both designs himself, making them one-of-a-kind symbols of their relationship!

A First Look and Garden Portraits

At Rebecca and Erik’s wedding at The Gatehouse at Lionsgate Event Center, the couple shared a first look behind the brick walls of the historic building. A first look is a private moment when the couple sees each other before the ceremony begins. It often gives couples the chance to connect, exchange emotions, and capture stunning portraits in the gardens or unique architectural spots around Lionsgate before the day becomes a whirlwind.

At Lionsgate specifically, doing a first look also allows time to use multiple portrait locations, like the ivy-covered brick, open lawns, and shaded garden paths, without feeling rushed later in the timeline

As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen how first looks can help calm nerves, create space for more portraits, and even give couples extra time to enjoy cocktail hour with their guests. But a first look isn’t required, many couples still love the tradition of seeing each other for the first time while walking down the aisle.

Lionsgate Wedding Timeline Tips

One of the advantages of getting married at Lionsgate is that the day naturally feels less rushed than a lot of Colorado weddings.

Because the ceremony, reception, and portrait locations are all on the same property, there isn't a lot of time spent loading people into cars or driving between venues. Instead, couples can spend more of the day actually being present with the people and pets they have invited.

Rebecca and Erik decided to do a first look before the ceremony, which gave us the chance to photograph many of their portraits earlier in the day. By the time cocktail hour rolled around, they were able to spend more time talking with friends and family instead of disappearing for photos.

When sunset arrived, we only needed a few minutes together before heading back to the reception. Rather than feeling like another item on the timeline, it felt like a chance for them to step away, take a breath, and enjoy a quiet moment together before the evening picked up again.

A Scandinavian Tradition at Lionsgate

Rebecca and Erik found meaningful ways to weave Erik's Norwegian heritage into their ceremony.

Before the processional, they each exited from opposite sides of the Gatehouse and walked toward one another before continuing up the aisle together. It's a Scandinavian tradition that felt especially fitting for a ceremony centered around partnership. Instead of one person waiting at the front, they entered the next chapter of their lives side by side.

Later in the ceremony, they included a handfasting ritual using a purple and blue cord. The color purple carried throughout the day, including the guests' attire, which created a subtle sense of continuity from the ceremony into the rest of the celebration.

A Personalized Reception at Lionsgate Event Center

After their vows, the reception began with a grand entrance and first dance. Dinner was provided by Olive Garden, followed by heartfelt toasts, dancing, and desserts from Button Rock Bakery and Nothing Bundt Cakes.

Lionsgate allows outside catering, which gives couples flexibility to choose food that feels meaningful or budget-friendly, something I see a lot of couples prioritize when planning here.

Every detail reflected Rebecca and Erik’s personalities. Their cake was topped with a custom metal dragon sculpture, two dragons kissing to form a heart. They also had custom LEGOs figurines made, representing each other, adding a playful touch to the table.

As the night wound down, Rebecca and Erik slipped outside for sunset portraits before returning for their grand send-off. Sunset at Lionsgate tends to fall behind the trees and open fields, creating soft, even light that’s really ideal for portraits without harsh shadows, especially in late summer and fall.

To end their personalized wedding day, guests lined up with glowing fiber optic wands, waving them as the couple made their exit in a tunnel of sparkling lights.

A Wedding That Felt Like Them

Rebecca and Erik’s Lionsgate Event Center wedding was as personal as it was beautiful. “We bring out the best versions of each other,” they shared. “That’s the best thing about us as a couple. We work as the best team and as one.” From honoring Norwegian traditions to designing their own rings, they created a day that was both meaningful and unforgettable.
