Whatcom Falls Wedding in Bellingham, Wa | Kashia and John
When I had the chance to photograph two Washington locals for their Whatcom Falls wedding recreation, I was beyond excited. Kashia and John were approaching their one-year anniversary and wanted to create a few more beautiful photos to celebrate. What better way than revisiting their own backyard at Whatcom Falls Park in Bellingham, Washington?
This lush park spans 241 acres and is home to four stunning waterfalls. Just steps from the parking lot, visitors are greeted by a historic stone bridge, surrounded by mossy trees and forest trails. It truly feels like walking into a fairytale, especially with a couple like Kashia and John leading the way.
Exploring the Trails and Falls
There are 3.5 miles of trails throughout the park, weaving through forest and meadows, but we stayed close to the entrance for most of our session. The namesake Whatcom Falls, located on the Whirlpool Loop Trail, is about 10 feet tall but framed by cliffs that rise up to 30 feet. During the summer, it’s a favorite local swimming and cliff-jumping spot, though we kept it to romantic wandering and dramatic views.
Kashia was all-in for adventure, whether she was crawling down a hill in her Belle Bridal wedding dress or balancing across a branch with her fishtail braid catching the breeze. Their energy was contagious, and I loved that they made the day uniquely theirs. A big shoutout to Elizabeth Marie Makeup for giving Kashia a look that stood up to a full day of hiking and exploring.
Sessions like this are why I always remind couples, your wedding attire can be cleaned, but the memories you create in it are forever. I know for a fact that Kashia’s dress needed a little love after this shoot, but the photos we created together were more than worth it.
