The Magic of Wedding Morning Photography
Sometimes an overlooked portion of the wedding photos are the getting-ready photos that happen the morning of the wedding. But these are often some of the most beautiful and touching photos of the entire day! This is the part of your day when anticipation is at it’s highest and you’re surrounded by your closest friends. This is when inside jokes fly free and the glam squad is on fire! And, trust me, you’ll be thrilled to see it all in your final gallery! Read on to learn what all-day coverage can get you the morning of your wedding.
But, before we dive in, know that this wedding morning timeline can be catered and tailored to just about any type of wedding! And I’m often at weddings where the timeline gets thrown out the window and everyone just rolls with it. So take the timeline with a grain of salt, because this is just a general outline of what you can get!
Details: Rings, Invites, Shoes, Jewelry, Flowers, Perfume, Watches etc.
I almost always start with the detail photos on your wedding morning. While you and your bridal party are just beginning to get your hair and makeup done, I’ll be organizing some gorgeous flat lays and taking photos that showcase the tiny details that may be otherwise overlooked. (Just look at some of these details in the amazing morning light!)
“You captured fine details that may be swept under a rug in the busy of an event. Yet someone worked so very hard to make that detail special. To make that mark matter. And you see it. You also make sure to capture nature if outside. And it’s just this beautiful artistic swirl of a story all in one.” – Heather
Hair and Makeup
But even while capturing your flat lays, I don’t shy away from the hair or makeup photos! While I’m working on the details, I’ll also pop in and take photos of the hair and makeup process, whether that is you getting done up by someone, or just giving your beard a trim. I’ll take this quiet, relaxed moment to get some amazing morning light and you in your PJ’s!
“Some of my favorite pictures were my getting ready pictures because they were the opposite of posed. It was the last calm moment of my wedding day, and I get to relive that sense of calm every time I look at my photos.” – Alisha and Kyle
Relaxed wedding Party Photos: Robes, Mimosas, Bed/Suite Relaxation, Playing Pool/Games, Toasts
As you’re putting the finishing touches on your look, I’ll snag photos of the bridesmaids and groomsmen relaxing and enjoying the morning or early afternoon. As a documentary-style wedding photographer, I love getting in-the-moment candids and more relaxed photos that really bring the full gallery together. These photos include hanging out in the bridal/groom suite, sitting on the bed, playing games like pool, luxury lounging in your robe/PJ’s, and sipping on or toasting mimosas. This wedding had some amazing scene-setting and getting-ready photos from the morning of, check it out for inspiration!
“Prior to my wedding day, I didn’t have many opportunities to have all 3 of the significant women in my life in the same room. I made sure Jennifer knew it was important for me to have these special moments captured. This wasn’t just about taking photos of me getting ready, this was about paying tribute to the women who raised me and helped me become the person I am today. I am so grateful to have photos of those sacred moments. I will forever cherish them.” – Hailey and Ryan
Getting Ready With Your Partner
Instead of getting ready separately, would you rather spend as much time with your spouse-to-be as possible on your wedding day? Yes, I’m totally here for this! We can take all kinds of fun photos of you both getting ready surrounded by your best friends and family, whether they have two legs or four. We’ll catch all the moments listed in the paragraph above, but with the added bonus of enjoying it all together as a couple. If you’ve never considered doing this, check out the gallery from Jacob and Chris’ wedding morning to get some ideas! Spoiler alert: it was an absolute blast!
Parent/Child Moments: Boutonniere-Pinning and Parent First Looks
I also love capturing the boutonniere-pinning and parent first looks in the morning. I’ll get photos of the boutonniere pinning and any parent reveals whether that is your parent pinning or your child. These are special, tiny moments that happen on the morning of your wedding, and they cannot be overlooked!
Wedding Party First Look
Fun and emotional all at once, the wedding party first look can lead right into the wedding party portraits. I love the moment when the bridesmaids and groomsmen show their true emotions and excitement to see the bride or groom dressed up for the wedding. It’s so precious to have a special moment like this! We can also have fun with some unique poses and prompts. I have a few favorites but am always happy to get creative.
Anything and Everything!
With my eye for documentary-style photography, I capture every precious moment as it comes throughout the morning of the wedding. I go with the flow, letting the day unfold without making anything too posed or forced. I’m an expert in making every moment look and feel beautiful!
