Summer Wedding at the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort, Illinois | Anni and Robert

Anni and Robert’s classy Illinois summer wedding in the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort was one I’ll never forget! From a rogue golf ball to Anni’s uncle singing during the reception, this day was full of surprises. And like many couples who’ve been through the struggle of trying to get married over the last two years, they deserved something absolutely magical!

My journey with these two started with an engagement session on the Riverwalk in Naperville, IL, where Robert grew up. At that time, we all believed their wedding day was right around the corner. But of course, COVID struck, delaying dates and changing plans. Even though they had to make some last-minute changes, their wedding was a gorgeous celebration of love.

The big day started with Anni doing her own makeup in the bridal suite, enjoying a quiet morning alone to prepare for the events ahead. But even before her family arrived, she had them in mind as she pinned her sister’s ring to her Martina Liana dress, which served as her borrowed and blue item. And when her family arrived, they came bearing breathtaking gifts! Her mom gave her a stunning antique floral ring tray with gold detailing around it, and her step-mom gave her a pair of Bella Bellé high heels, which Anni had always wanted but was not able to get before the wedding.

After some champagne pops with her bridal party and a quick vow practice, it was time for the ceremony! As we walked into the space, our jaws dropped. The ceremony was held in a large ballroom with glass windows lining three sides! While it could have made lighting the photos difficult, I have a few tricks up my sleeves for situations just like this one.

Robert and Anni chose not to do a first look, so I couldn’t wait to see Robert’s reaction to seeing Anni for the first time. It didn’t disappoint! The tears were definitely flowing! But the ceremony wasn’t all tears and seriousness. Never one to miss a moment for a laugh, Robert said in his vows, “I love how you always support me in my serious hobbies and my not-so-serious hobbies—whether I’m cooking something weird or thinking about starting a hot dog cart.” Aren’t custom vows the best!?

After the ceremony, we went outside near the lake to take family formals, wedding party photos, and portraits of the bride and groom. And thanks to a nearby golf course and a questionably talented golfer, the couple now has a hilarious photo in their gallery of the groomsmen reacting to a golf ball that flew a little too close for comfort! As the sun started setting and the golden light fell around us, Anni and Robert’s portraits were basked in a beautiful golden glow. Anni loves photos of the veil swirling around the couple, so we made sure to take lots of those! Then, we returned to the reception.

The band, Blue Water Kings Band, kept the energy fun throughout the whole night. I believe that live bands really tie together the entire wedding and bring the energy up a notch! The music brought everyone together and kept everyone dancing well into the night. Anni’s uncle even got up on stage and sang during the reception with his kids!

Anni and Robert’s wedding day was definitely worth the wait. While the journey was filled with moments of disappointment and frustration, the anticipation was only heightened by it all. And walking beside them through it was such a gift.
