Boulder Creek by Wedgewood Brunch Wedding in Boulder, Co | Shannon and Robert

It’s not every day that I get to photograph not only a brunch wedding in the middle of fall at the incredible picturesque Boulder Creek by Wedgewood Weddings in Boulder, Co; but also a wedding for two dear friends. Shannon and Robert aimed for something low key and inviting, thus the bacon filled brunch, but far enough into the mountains to make it feel remote.

I’ve known Shannon for the past 10 years, and have gotten to watch her journey from Hawaii to California, and onward through Europe, before finally settling back in Arizona. Through one of those weird and beautiful system of events, Robert just so happened to be at the same dinner party that Shannon attended in Colorado, and she states that “I had never met a guy who left such an instant and lasting impression on me.” Coincidentally, Shannon happened to find herself in Colorado not long after, and the relationship that led to this beautiful brunch wedding was born.

We went out to a restaurant called Proto's, which is right next to where the dinner part was held and their friend Molly used to live. Rob was acting a bit odd but chalked it up to school weighing on him. Afterwards, he suggested that we check out the apartment that Molly used to rent. It was a ground level unit on the street, with a little patio. We approached it and laughed about all the memories we'd had there. Well, maybe it was just me that was laughing, as Rob was busy mentally preparing for a question to ask me.

"I'll always remember this as the place where I met my wife."

...did that accidentally slip out of his mouth? What do I say?!

Before I had any more time to think, he got down on one knee in the orange glow of a distant street light and asked me to marry him.

I HAD NO IDEA! I obviously said yes, but was completely surprised! It was such an overwhelming whirlwind of shock and elation. Rob was relieved and all smiles, explaining the lead up to that moment. When our five year dating anniversary was approaching, he decided that it was time to prove his commitment. He asked my parents for their blessing, then went to work on a plan.

Shannon and Robert chose Boulder Creek for it’s location, but combined their heritage and likes to create a memorable wedding all of their own. From the Hawaiian lei exchange mid-ceremony, to Robert donning blue Turquoise amidst his wedding attire; even to the open bar brunch buffet for a laid back afternoon of lawn games : these two grabbed the best of all of their worlds for a low-key, but still special morning together.

I didn’t find out until their wedding day, that their engagement session drive home on motorcycles in the freezing cold from Garden of the Gods is touted as one of their more challenging days to bring this wedding to fruition; but for all the positive (and some ahem other ahem!) memories I have gotten to be a part of; I am so so blessed to have gotten to photograph a wedding for a fellow photographer, friend, and survivor of our mutual college.
